Applications

Where can you use Stone Wool?

Stone wool is the most commonly used insulation for hot applications in the industry for high temperatures up to
750oC. These include boilers, pipes, storage tanks and more.

In certain areas of an industry, noise levels exceed the 85dB safe limit for human ear. With excellent acoustic properties, stone wool is also used in applications to provide sound isolation / absorption.

How Stone
Wool Works?

The tiny pockets of air trapped within the physical structure of the stone wool reduce airflow and heat flow. This makes stone wool a preferred choice for thermal and acoustic insulation, especially for industries.

Process

How is Stone Wool Made

Stone wool, also known as rock wool, is manufactured by using volcanic rocks such as basalt and dolomite as raw material. The raw material is heated to very high temperature using fuel. The molten mixture thus obtained is passed through high speed spinners to form fibers. The fibers are then impregnated with thermosetting resin binder.

The fibers are then converted to various products such as LRB Mattress, RB Slab, Pipe section etc. of required density and thickness. Product can be customized to various dimensions and offered with facings as per the application.

BATCH

Basalt and agglomerates are stored in silos, weighed and mixed with coke.

MELTING

The mixture is melted at high temperature in a cupola

FIBERIZING / BINDER SPRAYING

The fibres are produced by projecting the melt on rotors turning at high speed. A binder is automatically atomized on the fibers. The fibers are collected are forming an homogeneous primary mat of low gram weight. This mat is transported to the pendular installation.

FOLDING AND CRIMPING

The fibers are collected on a belt and folded using a pendulum. The fibers are passed through a crimping machine to bring mechanical properties to the final product.

CURING / POLYMERISATION

The fibers mat, impregnated with binder, is entering into a curing oven to be stiffened. This gives to the mat its final thickness, density and consistency.

PACKAGING / PALLETIZATION

Once out of the oven, saws cut the blanket at the required width. The panels are then packed and palletized facilitating the logistics of handling, storage and loading in the transport units.
